I chose Max Payne because its very bold writing and very clear. Throughtout it shows images of gun aspect from a gun itself to bullets firing lastly to bullet wholes. Because of the genre of this movie we instantly what to see action or aspect of action within the beginning of the title sequence and its what we get. Which i think he;p keep the audience interestred for example a movie like Saw wouldn't start with a title sequence like a 300 because although there both filled with action there not particularly the same genre therefore when we watch Saw we want to see action and gore almost instantly as its keep the audience interested, which is what i what to capture in my title sequence!

Crime thrillers are movies that are cleverly characterised by fast pacing, frequent action where usually a villian often more resourceful and often out smarts a heroe. For example in this film "Hard Boiled" Dectective leaping in the air firing his gun to create suspense, suggesting rivalry between a villian and a cop which is usually found in crime thrillers like "Hard Boiled".

Psychological Thrillers is a mixture of mystery and drama genres
combined to create suspense and a good thriller movie. Psychological thrillers create suspense that comes within one solitary character where character must try work out and resolve conflicts with thier minds. These conflicts are made physical expression or physical torsion of at play similar to the move "Saw".

Action Thrillers are movies full of suspense and gun fight and adrenaline rushing stunts. They usually have a heroe and a villian similar to crime thrillers however my favourite action thriller is "Wanted" there many great aspect of action thriller I like one is they always bring something fresh. For example the ability to curl bullets was very effective.
Drama Thrillers consist of the elements of thriller and drama film. These films are usually slower paced and a great deal of character development in order to understant the plot also known as a plot twist. For example "awake" starts with a simple story then develops into a thriller, with drama aspects ending with a plot twist.

Disaster Thrillers is a story where the main conflict is due to some sort of natural or artificial disaster, such as floods, earthquakes, hurricanes amd volcanoes. For example "The Day After Tomorrow" where the world falls into natural disaster where change in the weather cause massive global awareness.

Font In 'The Incredibles' Title Sequence

This is the title sequence from 'The Incredibles', an animated movie about a family of superheroes.
'The Incredibles', is in a large classic superheroe format, squashing in in the middle and in bold colours red and black showing strength and power. Although the colours red and black are associated with 'evilness', in this instant i beleive it is used in a more warm way and shows comfort. The rest of the text is shown in a sort of animated text and also shows humour, - the words in the glasses being one. I think this is because the main target audience for this film is children, so the producers tried to make it humerous to get thim engaged.
The images surroounding the text are cartoon characters or sillhoettes of characters in the film and I think that really adds and suits to the text as it looks fun and inviting.
Most of the text is large and bold so that grabs the attention of who is watching it. Although 80% of the audience are going to be children, and therefore not interested in the actual text anyway, it adds to the initial theme and gets them subconciously trying to read it anyways as its all a part of the sequence and looks cool.

How Suspense Was Created In The Shining

The film starts off with a small yellow car driving through a large range of mountains and countryside with no one else in site, then the car containing the small family arrives at a big hotel set in a secluded location on a mountain, that gets snowed in during the winter time while no one else stays there. When Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and their son Danny (Danny Lloyd) arrive at the hotel in the small yellow car it seems that they are a happy and caring family towards one another but as the summer starts to turn to winter the audience sees a big difference in the main character Jack Torrance by the way he starts to act towards his family.
The character Jack Torrance is a caretaker for the hotel over the winter period so that nothing happens to the hotel but as the audience very early on in the film finds out the previous caretaker had killed his family and himself in the hotel due to going mental with the lack of people around him for so long. We start to see that the son Danny and his so called power "Shining" get more powerful as the weeks go by, the son rides his trike around the hotel and he starts to see more and more graphic events that had supposedly happened to the other family. Danny see the two girls standing in the hallway with blood on them indicating to the audience that they are dead, the build up with the little boy riding around on his trike becomes greater each time by the way the camera is place at his eye level and just behind him so that the audience can try to feel what he is feeling and this creates a great deal of suspense in the movie.
Jack Torrance finally "Cracks Up" in the film when his wife accuses him of hitting their son and leaving bruises on him, the suspense in my point of view comes from when Wendy looks at what he has been typing throughout the months and finds that he has been typing the same sentence over and over again "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" this creates suspense from my point of view, because it shows that for a while now that Jack has been going insane in the hotel also when Jack finds Wendy looking at the pieces of paper there is a lot of suspense there because its as if he does not care about why she has a baseball bat in her hand and the way the music bring the suspense into the scene is used very well, that is how a lot of suspense is created in the film "The Shining".

Suspense

The Definition of Suspense:

One of the Definitions of Suspense is that it is an emotion or feeling of uncertainty/ anxiety about the outcome of certain types of actions also most often it can refer to an audience's perception in a dramatic piece of work i.e. from a play of from a film. Suspense can come up in any situation where there is a lead up to a big event or dramatic moment, with tension being a primary emotion felt as part of the situation.

Second comment from disappointed teacher

Feelando - well done you have made some real effort here! But Abbie, Bartek and Keith have still not posted any individual blogs. Remember group blogs don't count. I will look again on Monday and I really hope you have made some progress by then.

News An Current Affairs Events!

18th January 2010 Afghan capital Kabul hit by another taliban attack! The full story and video at:

I thought this was very inspiring because it seemed to me to be a very easy idea to take and turn into a thriller with emotional and phycological aspects. For example if i was to attempt to make this a thriller i make the idea of an explosion the main factor as the image of a bomb timer and whether it going to explode or be disarmed keeps the audience on there toes, suggesting a degree of suspense and tension.

Final Cut Pro!!

I one of my lesson i learnt hoe to use final cut pro!
I learnt how to:

  • Cut clips
  • Drag items on time a timeline
  • Mark and Mark out clips
  • Match Cut
  • Drag And Put Clip from the browser box to the Viewing box

Suspense In "The Shining" !

The film Shining tells a story of a writer Jack Torrance who accepts a job as a winter caretaker at a hotel that always gets snow during the winter. Jack son plays a very strong character in the film as he share physic abilities like the hotel chef who calls it "shining". They can see things in the future or past, such as the ghost of murdered people in the hotel. As the hotel becomes snowbound, Jack Torrance becomes highly influenced by the ghost in the hanted hotel, descending into madness and trying to kill his wife and son. However although Jack plays a main part in the success in creating suspense in this thriller i would only like to focus on danny's "REDRUM" scene.

Danny create a sense that he's possess when his voice changes and continuously repeat the word "REDRUM". He slowly walks over to his mum bed where he picks up a knife, this instantly create a tension for the audience as we don't no what he going to so with the knife giving an idea of an anti-climax.

If more so tense after danny's written redrum on the door it is revealed in the mirror by his mum as "Murder", at the same time the audience see Jack cutting through there living quaters force both to leave the hotel however only danny can fit through the window, leaving Wendy in the bathroom on her own. This whole small scene is use camera angels, which convey wendy feeling trapped and scared as every time the axe hits the bathroom door she exaggerately shrudders, implying the sense she feels scared. Also the use of music which goes well with the sound of the axe hitting the wood. At this time we can feel the suspense growing on us as we don't no what going happen next. Which i think is the key to suspense and the success in The Shinining as we don't always know what going on or what but it always as an unusual twist and excitment to it.

Definition Of Suspense

Suspense - suspense is a feeling of uncertainty and anxiety about the outcome of certain actions, most often relating to an audience preception's in a dramatic way! Suspense may operate in any situation where there is a lead up to a big even or dramatic moment, with tension being a primary emotion which is felt as part of the situation.

Editing!

Today we focus on editing and how it could be used to combined music and titles with our camera work. I learnt how to combine colour and movement of text to make my title sequence more effective. We used what we learnt in today's lesson to go on to practicing our own skills at adding music and text to a short film we created in a previous lesson. Personally i think camera work is really important as my group didn't do as well as other therefore making it hard for us to edit to bring in the use of text and music without it looking very bad. However over all i think i left today's lesson with a pretty good insight of how to use and combine music, text and background colours to camera work.

Comment from a disappointed teacher

You need to be publishing individual blogs - this is very important as you are assessed individually for your coursework. Be sure to check the blogging checklist (available on BlackBoard) to see what you need to be doing. I'm disappointed at how little blogging has been done so far as a group. Feelando - you really need to get cracking!
