Evaluation; Q.2: How Does Your Media Product Represent Particular Social Groups ?

My media product has two main characters that both portray two stereotypical social groups.
The first social group is a young, hooded, black youth. We decided to input this character as we felt that it would fit the theme of the story we were trying to show; which is a young girl being followed by a guy because her boyfriend owes him money for drugs, and he is holding her hostage- even though this is not shown in the title sequence, that was the idea we were going for.

The girl is just an average teenager who is just coming home. The social group she fits in is the 'cool' group which consists of people from different cultures. We can tell this from her clothes as they are the latest out and they are a mixture if different social groups mixed into one.

The girl does not belong in the stereotypical 'rude girl' group which black girls are normally associated with. She is calm and collected and down to earth.

The boy on the other hand is as stereotypical as it gets. The black boy in a hoody act automatically makes people think he is looking for trouble, which in this case is right (Fig.1). The big black hoody makes him seem more intimidating. The character from the movie that inspired us is Sam from 'kidulthood' (Fig.2). In the movie he was always looking for trouble and intimidated people.
