Feedback: Questions asked to the audience!
1) Did you like our film? If so then why?
2) Once the title sequence had ended were you gripped enough to see more?
3) Do you think the music suited our film?
4) Do you think our film would be successful on a larger scale?
We got mostly positive feedback and people said the fort our music was good however our editing could of been more tight and more cuts when within the house.
Skill Audit: Sound And Also Livetype!!
Soundtrack Pro was the program that we used to compose and edit our music for our thrillers. The program featured in many music clips that varied from suspenseful to orchestra music, we eventually found tracks that suited our thriller which we later associated with our film. The music we choose was urban and hip hop because we was looking to create a young urban thriller similiar to adulthood. Soundtrack enabled us to create our own unique piece of music from scratch. The tutorial taught us how to:
stretch sound of the timeline
mix sounds
listen to a variety of sounds
explore sound genres
make a sound loud/quiet as moods change
Livetype was very useful as we need to add or title on to make our film look realistic we looked at many title sequences to see the order at which they put the cast, director and producer and so on. On of the title sequences i looked at from a real media productions was :
At first we see columbia pictures presents which is what we did however we used candimedia. After you got the producers and so. We wanted to make our movie as realistic as possible therefore we tried to mirror real media productions in our media productions. With sofware livetype we was able to put title in at any point in our movie we didnt use the most colourful or abtract font because we felt most media production keep the title simple which again we tried to mirror.
Feedback: 4 main questions to ask about our film
1) Did you like our film? If so then why?
2) Once the title sequence had ended were you gripped enough to see more?
3) Do you think the music suited our film?
4) Do you think our film would be successful on a larger scale?
Location Shots

The location of our film was around the upper street area. Our thriller title sequence was recorded just outside the house on two roads where the target was getting followed and also the main scenes were recorded in the house: kitchen, living room and stairs. The area was quiet, on of the side roads which was ideal for a stalker to follow their target, this is what our thriller was based on.
Final edit of livetype and sound filming practice
Skills Audit: Soundtrack and Livetype

Soundtrack Pro was the program that we used to compose and edit our music for our thrillers as shown above. The program featured in many music clips that varied from suspenseful to orchestra music, we eventually found tracks that suited our thriller which we later associated with our film. Soundtrack enabled us to create our own unique piece of music from scratch. The tutorial taught us how to:
- stretch sound of the timeline
- mix sounds
- listen to a variety of sounds
- explore sound genres
- make a sound loud/quiet as moods change

Livetype was a program allowing us to produce titles for our thrillers as you can see above. This program has many features which allow you to add various effects to your titles such a making them shine, blur etc. Livetype also allows us to change fonts, sizes, colour. The program also has a preview feature which enables to see what the title will look like. In the tutorial we learnt how to:
- change font
- change size/colour
- effects such as blurring or fading etc.
- mix effects
- making each title a certain length

Q.5: Who Would Be The Audience For Your Media Product ?
Evaluation; Q.2: How Does Your Media Product Represent Particular Social Groups ?

Evaluation: Question 6
First, I learnt the precautions & safety of using the a video camera and it's tripod, this was beneficial knowledge to us when we were making our film, as we where going to be panning ect and if we don't know to correctly do it we can damage equitment.
Secondly, I had to use LiveType so that we were able to give our work titles which is the main goal of this project (entering text into our title sequence for our thriller).
Next, Final Cut Pro was used for the main editing aspects of our film because we were able to cut in and between clips and edit clips in general also I have learnt a great deal in this project.
The internet and it's software e.g. google, The art of the title sequence and blogger were needed when making our thriller. Google is the main source for where we found out information and blogger is where we uploaded our own information about our thrillers title sequence.
For the sound effects created and used were used by a software package called Soundtrack Pro, this was used very well I feel when we were trying to create suspense and atmosphere in the thriller.
Open Title Sequence Ideas:
We wanted to elaborate this idea as we know, from watching other thriller movies, it works well in capturing an audience within suspense. After the suggestion of many possible ideas we finally came up with the following outline for our sequence and soon after began to storyboard and choose possible locations for shooting. In our opening title sequence we will see a conspicuous man standing againt a wall watching a girl go past giving the idea he has choosen his target (victim). He then follow her into her house where he get into the position then attacks the girl surprising her.
We also wanted to created a sense of two people invovled therefore we used hand held camera movemen to suggest this. Its was hard but i think we did rather well.
Q2 EVALUATION-How Does Your Media Product Reflect Differant social stereotypes?
Here as small clip of micheal myers in action giving you the idea of what we tried to create in our title sequence:
A Small montage of clips of the halloween film!
Intro to Camera & Health & Safety Tutorial

In our lesson, we were introduced to the JVC ProHD GY-HM700 camera that we were going to use to record our thrillers. We were shown a presentation of main factors such as:
- how to turn the camera on/off
- inserting of the memory cards
- applying zoom/focus
- inserting and removing the battery
- opening/closing lens
- how to record
Each group was then provided with a camera, every person in the group had a go on the camera eg. turning it on/off etc. We were also provided with a tripod and taught how to apply the camera on the tripod, then lock it and finally how to remove it from the tripod. We were also informed on how inportant it is to be cautious with the camera's. This tutorial helped us boost our confidence with the camera's also the knowledge that we had on how to use one, learning how the camera functions was a good introduction before we went of to record our thrillers.
Evaluation; Q1 In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of a real media product?
I The Beginning i wanted to create a psychological thriller i felt "se7en" title sequence was powerful and even without knowledge of the film you can guess the type of genre it was going to be which is wht i wanted to do.
Also took a look at:
I felt these shot where amazing and you could really see the whole of the city which the film was filmed in. To demonstrate our knowledge of the forms and conventions, whilst planning our sequence, we made an effort to include as many as we could and as many would fit our title sequence to help illustrate what we wanted illustrate. We compared our title sequence to the opening title sequence of "The Heat" to highlight the conventions we used. Reason being is because the heat editing was what we tried to do quick cut to keep the audience interested and satisfied. I Compared parts of my sequence to my favourite scene in the heat movie has we used forms and conventions identical to The heat.
In the beginning of our we choose "candimedia" as our convention institutional ident because it cost cheap and we have a low budget therefore using this would be appropiate. We made our convetional idents show during the movie as other movies either fade them out or on a black screen for example, panic rooms has to human movement jus long shot oflocations showing us there titles which i felt looked good however would be more effective if they used our methods of combining acting and title together.
Our location also played a vital part in the opening of our title as sequence as we see an outside area then it shifts into a household. Sadly because of our low budget and not able to go in higher place we couldn't get good location shot like the panic room as the used ariel shot prbaly within a helicopter.
Lastly the use of sound was very effective,. Our soundtrack we created was fast and very hip hop as in the beginning we used hip pop beat to start of the movie it then slows down into a more eerie sound which was good for our thriller, i think this challenges alot of thriller that are a real media product as they don't usually combine eerie sounds with hip pop ub beat sounds which i think we did very well and was a success.

Evaluation Question 7) Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it yo the full product?
Q5 EVALUATION- Who Would Be The Audience For Your media Product?
Techinal audit of bait tutorial

In our lesson we were taught how to use Final Cut Pro, this program enabled us to edit. We learned the basics of how to input and output for example. We were provided with a short film footage that we had to try to match and edit. The matching allowed us to arrange clips of the footage on the timeline. This tutorial was useful because it gave everyone a clear image of what editing our thriller will be like.
Cameras and health and safety tutorial
While we was in this lesson we learnt rules we have to stick to when filming our opening title sequence for our thrillers such as if it rains we should take umbrellas to cover the camera because if the camera was to get wet it would break and we would not be able to film. when we film we should not touch the lens otherwise you could get fingerprints on the lens which means it will ruin the quality of our film as fingerprints will be over the screen and also finally we should close the lens we are finished and make sure it is turned off otherwise the battery will run out.
There were many safety precautions we were told to take. One was to make sure we don't put our hands or the fingers on the camera lens because it would affect the quality of the filming. Another one was to make sure the camera was placed on the tripod properly as it might fall off. We were also told to open up the tripod properly because if it was not open properly then it might be unbalanced and unsecure.
Camera Tutorial
- Making sure all bolts were tightened properly on the tripod before inserting the camera onto it
- Making sure the camera was secure on top of the tripod before letting go.
- Carry the equiptment responsibly.
News and current affairs event

The leaders of Britain's three biggest parties are going head-to-head over the economy in the final TV debate before next week's general election. The clear winner of the last debate was Nick Clegg as he showed his calm figure and spoke well during the TV debate. This will be the third and final, most important debate just before the election.
Gordon Brown branded Conservative plans to axe child tax credits for better off families "unfair and immoral".
Tory leader David Cameron said Mr Brown had got his facts wrong and "should be ashamed of what he is doing".
Nick Clegg said the way the tax credit system operated was "so unfair" and said the Lib Dems would fix it.
Evaluation Question 6) What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
List of thriller sub-genres
Thrillers consist of many sub-genres. These include:
Action thriller - in which the work often features a race against the clock, contains lots of violence, and usually guns.
Psychological thriller - the conflict between the main characters is mental and emotional, rather than physical.
Crime thriller - both crime films and thrillers consist of a suspenseful account of a successful or failed crime or crimes. Crime thrillers usually emphasise action over psychological aspects.
Horror thriller - where main character is put in danger and their main enemies are unrealistic creatures in which they must destroy to achieve their goal.
Action thrillers seem to be the ones that inspire me because they develop a wide spread to tension and keep the viewer gripped. Therefore, this makes me want to watch on to find out what the outcome of the film will be.
Example of action thriller is Transporter 3:
Detailed analysis of thriller clip analysed
The sequence begins with a large amount of graphics and cuts which is used to set the scene. There are a variety of cuts which include: a snap shot of someone typing on a computer, clouds going past to show time increase. These cuts are used to show the viewer a foreshadowing image of what may happen later in the film, they also allow the audience to see what the film is about, which in this case is technology. The opening then follows on with a man walking, there are POV shots of the main character looking at people on computers, iPods and phones.
The location that the character is in seems bright, which doesn’t seem conventional for thrillers. The man then enters the university library, in the far background a car is visible. Looking closer, the car mirror seems to have a dark blurry figure, once again this foreshadows later events. The lighting within the location seems to have changed, the university is darker than the outside, meeting the convention of a thriller. The man is now on his own, the character matches the damsel in distress. As he enters the university library the man see flashbacks of the same dark figure he earlier saw in the car mirror. His dark surrounding causes tension in relation with music. The music in the background and the sound produced whilst the titles appear indicate that the film seems to be a psychological thriller, during later parts of the sequence the music keeps the audience gripped but a the same time cautious. The man later gets caught by a scary dark looking character, which leads to him screaming, from this moment the film begins.
How is suspense created in the film you watched in class?

The Shining
Suspense is a key feature within a film which grips the viewer making them speculate about what may happen next. ‘The Shining’ does this through many different psychological ways.
The film hints events that have occurred in the past which will later relate to the film, this type of element keeps the audience constantly curious. The flashbacks that Danny sees as he cycles emphasises the mystery story that occurred in the hotel previously. Another key scene is when Jack enters room 237 and notices a beautiful women, this creates suspense as earlier the audience was sure that something horrific will happen as soon as Jack enters. As the scene develops Jack begins to kiss the women when suddenly she turns into a repulsive creature which consumes the viewers with suspense.
Shining hides other various types of suspense e.g. Danny who shares psychic abilities with the hotel's chef who calls it shining also develops tension within the audience. The camera work also has an effect as the frequent use of long shots throughout both the ‘Overlook hotel’ and its garden maze have a disorientating effect on the viewer. The scene where Jack is axing down the bathroom door and Wendy who’s constant screaming builds tension, shows Jacks head poke through the shattered door shouting ‘here’s Jonny’. This scene is arguably the best within the film as the viewer is held within suspense to see what happens next, surprisingly Wendy leaves within any injury.

Evaluation Question 5) Who would be the audience for your media product?

Evaluation Question 2) How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Evaluation Question 1) In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Evaluation: Question 3 & 4
To Attract audience i post my film on social networks such as facebook and myspace:

Q. 3&4 - Evaluation.
As this is a low budget film; probably done with resources the filming crew already had, there was no media institutions involved and the students had to distribute their work on their own, using the resources around of them, one of them being the internet.
The internet is one of the best way to distribute ametuer and professional works as it can reach people around the world and become international.
I found this video on youtube, which is one of the best internet sites to distribute ametuer videos as it is free and gets over 100 million views a day. It can also be accessed by people world wide.

Having thousands of friends on these sites can share your video making it popular. Low budget posters can be done on the computer, costing very little money. They video may be seen by big produces that find their work interesting, and may want to invest in them, although this is very rare.
These students would have to attract the audiences attention by making the film exciting and using phrases like 'scary thriller' and 'shocking' to attract people. Once they have a decent amount of views like this video, a local cinema might find what they are doing productive and may agree to do a screening amongst peers and family.
Evaluation Question 3&4) What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? How will you attract/address your audience?

Election 2010: War of words mounts over hung parliament
The war of words has intensified over the possibility of a hung parliament after the general election.
The Conservatives said that, if no party gained a majority in the Commons, it would "paralyse" the UK's economy and create a political "stitch-up".
But Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg said it could usher in political reform and end the "preposterous" current system.
Labour's Gordon Brown argued it was "arrogant" to discuss Westminster deals before voting happens on 6 May.
Opinion polls continue to suggest no party will gain an overall majority in the election, the first time this would have happened in the UK since 1974.
In other election developments on Monday:
- Gordon Brown made a pledge on cancer test results in England in a speech to the Royal College of Nursing
- Two senior Conservative councillors raised questions about Tory plans to allow parents to set up schools with state funding
- The Respect party launched their manifesto in Manchester
- The Conservatives and Unionists set out plans to bring investment to Northern Ireland in their manifesto
- Labour suspended a candidate over alleged offensive remarks
- The SNP said they had raised £50,000 to proceed with legal actionover Thursday's third prime ministerial debate on the BBC
But the possibility of a hung parliament continues to dominate political debate.
Speaking at a Conservative election campaign event in central London, shadow culture secretary Jeremy Hunt said this would mean a "lack of accountability", with no one party in charge, and deals being done "behind closed doors".
Post-election talk
The last time this happened, it resulted in a fall in share prices and, eventually, the "winter of discontent" of 1978/9.
Mr Hunt said: "It's ordinary people, not politicians, who suffer the effect of paralysis at the top. That's why a hung parliament would be bad for everyone."
He warned that voting systems in other countries, which tend to bring in hung parliaments and coalition governments, created instability.
Belgium's latest regime collapsed last week after just five months, Mr Hunt said, adding that Israel had had 32 governments in 62 years and Italy had had 60 since World War Two.
Earlier Tory leader David Cameron accused the Lib Dems of wanting to "hold the whole country to ransom", saying their proposed overhaul of the voting system would result in a "permanent hung Parliament".
The Lib Dems want a proportional representation system of voting, which they say more fairly reflects the will of the electorate as a whole, rather than giving the Conservatives and Labour an in-built advantage.
Mr Clegg said the "unfairness" of the present set-up meant "electoral reform is a first step of any government of any composition".
"The way in which politicians may need to speak to each other after the general election will be shaped, and has to be shaped, entirely by two things.
"Firstly, by the result of the election... and, secondly, by the priorities that each of the parties set out.
"I have tried to be quite clear that... there are some circumstances which, it seems to me, will strike most people in this country as either unfair or very fair."
But Gordon Brown said no-one should be "arrogant" enough to talk about making political deals before the election had taken place.
"Do not take the people of this country for granted," he said in an interview with the BBC's Nick Robinson.
"Don't be arrogant enough to assume that you can start talking about after an election, let the people make their own views up. And let people decide."
'Last minute'
The BBC's Laura Kuenssberg said Labour and the Conservatives were continuing to have to shift their tactics to address the Lib Dem threat.
Welsh Secretary Peter Hain appealed to supporters of other parties, whom he described as "the great decent majority", to support Labour in certain marginal seats to prevent the Conservatives from winning them.
"There ought to be a way of the anti-Tory majority expressing itself," he said.
But former Liberal Party leader Lord Steel said he did not foresee anything happening in the remainder of the campaign to change the current state of the polls and there was a strong "likelihood" of a hung Parliament.
Intro to Cameras & Health and Safety Tutorial
In our lesson today our teacher gave every group a JVC video camera, he then put a powerpoint slideshow up for us on the interactive whiteboard so that we could watch how to operate and use the video camera's sufficiently and correctly. After we watched the powerpoint presentation we had learnt how to insert memory cards into slot A & B, how to insert and take out the battery correctly, how to turn on and off the video camera, how to record and play back the recordings, how to use the focus assist function/using selection 1 and 2, how to zoom in and out, how to use the manual audio control, how to use the auto shooting mode, how and when to use the tripod (for a steady camera), how to use the tripods base adaptor and how to lock/unlock the camera onto and off of the tripods connector safely and correctly.
