Analysis of Thriller Title Sequence

I have chosen the opening title sequences of one of my favourite movies which is “2 Fast 2 Furious”, because all of the factors such as music/sound, mise en scene, editing and camera angles involved are very good.

At the beginning of the title sequence we are shown the typical universal clip that always plays at the very beginning of the film but it has a few modifications such as when the writing comes in front of the globe the whole image changes colour and becomes metallic looking and starts to bounce around forming into the hub cap of a cars tire which then is the tire of the truck that the people shutting off the road for a race that is about to happen, jumping into the action straight away. There are a lot of young women and flashy cars which are waiting around for an illegal street race which is being set up with cones and road closed signs. A main character which is Ludacris answers a mobile phone and starts to talk about the race that is going to happen, then shouts out to all the people around the cars and tells them when they are about to race. There are a lot of lights, artwork on the cars, main roads, people and cars involved in the title sequence also the title draws the audience in with colourful and neon streaks of lights forming the title of the film.

All throughout the title sequence the audience hear some sort of urban/R&B music which straight away targets the films main audience which is young adults from the age of around 15-30. Although there is music playing the audience can still hear the sound of people talking, cars engines roaring and many other ordinary sounds which makes the audience able to relate even better to the film by making the audience feel as if they are there.

There are many different camera angles used in the title sequence to show the wide variety of cars and people that have gathered also most of the shots are close ups on the objects then the camera zooms out to show what it is that it is focused on. One of the main characters (Ludacris) is on his mobile phone and the camera is on close up on his mouth onto the mobile phone which creates a sense of realism also many medium and long shots of the surroundings make the audience see all the cars and women that are surrounding the race track.

Last but not least the editing of the title sequence makes the opening very good as the cuts are sharp and quick but at the same time none of the action in the clip is missed also the whole of the title sequence is in real time meaning that the audience can relate to the film. The quickness of the cuts create a good sense of pace within the film meaning that something is about to happen, which makes audiences more interested the character that talks about the race.

In conclusion all of these factors in one or more ways create a good sense of realism so that the viewer can feel as if they are there, which I really like about the film because action thrillers should have so that the audience get a bigger thrill out of the movie.
